No one knows why. No one knows how. But rest assured, the Shaw 650 fleet features perhaps the worst taste in names in the world of sailing.
The stage was set with Pornstar, the turboed sportboat that terrorised the Auckland Sportie fleet, before sedately retiring, as all good pornstars do, to the seedy area of Pattaya. Well, actually Jomtien which isn’t in Pattaya, but it is frigging close.

Along the way appeared Snatch – kiwi slang for the woman’s ‘map of tasmania’; Barely Legal – no comment; Whaka (pronounced with an F, and meaning boat in Maori, ‘cept I don’t think the crew are exactly Tangata Whenua, leading the announcers in Auckland to refuse to announce the boat when they won, which they seem to have done a lot of); Badonkadonk – which means the curvaceous part of a woman’s derriere and of course the mighty new additions to the fleet, coming very soon which don’t exactly help.

Peow Peow – slang from the hit series Brotown.
So the question becomes, when will a name so foul, a name so extremely filthy that not even the ISAF will allow such depravity to join the annals of yachting appear? One presumes, if it does, it will likely be part of the growing Shaw 650 fleet.
